The mythology of Khatu Shyam Temple

The Khatu Shyam temple is associated with the Mahabharata period. It is believed that Bhima had the son of Hidimba's son Ghatotkacha, whose name was Barbarik. It was believed that Barbarik had the boon of being invincible from Bhagwati Jagadamba.

When the Mahabharata war was about to begin, Barbarik left for Kurukshetra. During this time he met Shri Krishna. When Krishna asked on whose side you are going to fight the war, he said that I will fight from the side which is losing. Then Shri Krishna asked for a head as a donation to stop them but expressed the desire of Barbarik to keep the head at the place of war so that he could see the war. Shri Krishna was very happy with this sacrifice and he gave a boon that in future you will be worshipped in the name of Shyam.

You can easily reach Khatu Shyam. This temple is about 80 km away from Jaipur. The nearest railway station is Ringas. From here you can easily take a taxi or cab. You can also visit the KhatuShyamMandir temple from Jaipur airport. This temple is at a distance of about 95 km from the airport.
