Pregnancy is a beautiful journey for a woman, but there are many difficulties during it. Women have to go through many problems. A lot of care has to be taken, especially one needs to be careful about eating and drinking. Even a little carelessness in lifestyle can prove dangerous for the health of both mother and child. Some women have the habit of drinking coffee which they continue even during pregnancy, but the question is whether coffee should be consumed during pregnancy. Let us know about this from gynaecologist Nancy Nagpal.
Is it safe to drink coffee during pregnancy?
According to expert Nancy Nagpal, coffee contains caffeine, which is a stimulant. It stimulates the nervous system but it can also cause miscarriage during pregnancy. If pregnant women consume excessive coffee then the growth of children can be hindered. According to experts, caffeine can cross the placenta and reach the child, which hurts the health of the child. Caffeine can enter the child's brain, which can also hamper mental development. This may lead to a low birth rate. At the same time, the mother may have to face problems like insomnia, increased blood pressure, and heart health rate.
How much coffee is safe to drink?
According to experts, pregnant women should not consume more than one cup of coffee i.e. 200 mg of caffeine in a day. Experts believe that some people drink two types of coffee, black and white, so if you are fond of drinking black coffee, then in this critical time, consume coffee only by increasing the quantity of milk. This reduces the possibility of loss. Experts say that if you drink coffee for energy, then adding a slice of lemon in water or consuming fresh juice or herbal tea instead can be beneficial.
