History of Yoga

  • According to religious texts, the first spread of yoga was done by Lord Shiva among his 7 disciples. These seven sages were initiated into yoga on the first full moon after the summer solstice, all of which were believed to be incarnations of Shiva.

Yoga day proposal

  • The United Nations has announced to celebrate Yoga Day internationally. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for celebrating Yoga Day at the world level on 27 September 2014 at the Joint General Assembly. Realizing the importance of yoga, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposal was accepted by the United Nations General Assembly within three months.

  • On 11 December 2014, the General Assembly of the United Nations accepted this resolution and fixed the date of 21 June for Yoga Day. Out of 193 countries, 175 countries accepted India's proposal without any voting. It is a record for a resolution to be supported by such a large number in the UN General Assembly. Let us tell you that before this no proposal had received such massive support. For the first time, a country has been accepted into the UN Assembly within 90 days. This is a record in itself.

World Yoga Day started for the first time

  • Celebration of Yoga Day globally started on 21st June. International Yoga Day was celebrated for the first time on 21 June 2015. The first Yoga Day was conducted in India. Two records were set in India on the occasion of the first Yoga Day. First, in India, more than 35 thousand people did yoga together on Rajpath, second, representatives of 84 countries participated in this Yoga Day event.
