A case of negligence by TTE in his assigned duty has come to light in Indian Railways. Due to this, Railways suffered a loss of about Rs 8 crore. There was no compensation for that loss. Sources say that the loss is continuing. Many TTEs who check tickets in the Delhi Division of Railways did not perform their duty properly. Thousands of people continued traveling without tickets where they were on duty. There were a lot of people traveling without tickets during this year's busy season i.e. April, May, and June. The amount deposited in the Railway treasury due to fines on ticketless passengers has declined by about 35 percent in three months this time as compared to last year.
Loss of crores of rupees due to negligence in duty
According to sources, TTE has been deployed on a large scale to catch people traveling without tickets in trains. All TTEs are informed about their scope of duty. Some TTEs check tickets at the railway station, while others are given the job of checking inside trains. There are also special squads, which do surprise checking at any train or station. When railway officials calculated the fines collected from people traveling without tickets, they were surprised. This time there was a decrease in the amount of fine as compared to last year. Railways continued to suffer losses worth crores of rupees every month. During the investigation, many TTEs were found who be negligent in their duty. The ticketless passengers were not checked seriously. As a result, Railways suffered a loss of crores of rupees.
Where were six dozen TTEs giving duty?
Under the Delhi Division of Railways, about eight hundred employees have been entrusted with the work of ticket checking. Of these, there are three hundred and fifty employees who have to perform duty in trains. That means they catch ticketless passengers on the train. The same number of employees have been deployed at various railway stations under the Delhi division. About eighty personnel are included in the special squad. They conduct surprise inspections under the Delhi division. Investigation by railway officials shows that about six dozen employees did not perform their duties properly. There were a lot of ticketless passengers where he was posted. The reason was, there was no one to catch them. Sources say that among those personnel, many come from sports quota. Some employees get attached to an officer or another unit. However, it is a clear order of the Railway Board that the staff engaged in ticket checking should not be deployed for other duties. This affects the work of ticket checking.
Despite this, there was a soft corner for such employees
There have been reports of employees not taking their assigned duties seriously at various levels in the Railways. However, due to sports quota or any other reason, there was a feeling of soft corner towards him. They could not be strict during their daily duties. An official said cases of such personnel are seen almost everywhere. Strict instructions continue to be issued by the Railway Board. Now there is a big difference in the fine amount, hence strictness is being taken again. Employees engaged in ticket checking will not be sent on other duties. Last year, Rs 68 crore was deposited in the account of Railways by imposing a fine on ticketless passengers in the Delhi division. If we talk about the busy season i.e. from April to June, then Rs 23 crore was collected as fine. In this year's busy season, that fine amount came down to Rs 15 crore. The fine amount in April 2022 was Rs 9.10 crore, whereas this year the graph of that amount could reach only Rs 4.10 crore. Last year in May, Rs 7.80 crore was collected, but this year the amount could not exceed Rs 5.50 crore. Similarly, if we talk about June last year, a fine of Rs 6.10 crore was collected from ticketless passengers, but in 2023 this amount has been Rs 5.40 crore.
