Historical importance of Katasraj

Regarding the history of this temple, it is said that the pond around which this Katas temple is built is filled with tears of Lord Shiva. It is said that Bholenath lived at this place with his wife Sati.

But when his mother died, he could not bear the sorrow of her departure, tears kept flowing from his eyes.

He cried so much that two ponds were formed from his tears. It is believed that by bathing in this pond, all the sins of a person are washed away and he attains salvation.

The temple is known as KatakshKund

It is believed that two ponds were created from the tears of Bhole Baba. In which one pond is in Katarasraj and the other is in Pushkar, Rajasthan. This pond located in the temple is also known as KatakshaKund. The pond and the temple are also named with names that express sadness. Katas means tears in the eyes.

History related to Pandavas

The history of this temple is also linked to the Pandavas. Katas is the same place where the Pandavas spent their 12 years of exile. One day, while walking in the forest, the Pandavas felt thirsty. He saw KatakshKund at some distance. But at that time the Yaksha had authority over the pond.

He told the Pandavas who came to fetch water that they had to answer my questions first, only then could drink the water. The Yaksha places this condition that the kund will give its water to pandavas only after they answer his questions. When the Yaksha did not answer, all the Pandavas became unconscious. At last, Yudhishthir came and demonstrated his intelligence by giving correct answers to all the questions.

Seeing the wisdom of Yudhishthir, the Yakshas became very happy, they brought the Pandavas back to life and allowed them to drink water.
