That year, for the first time on 14 September, the Constituent Assembly accepted Hindi written in Devanagari script as the official language of India. After the formation of the government of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, it was decided to celebrate 14 September as Hindi Day and the first official Hindi Day was celebrated on 14 September 1953.
