Which foods increase the level of uric acid?

These are foods that contain more than 200 milligrams of purines per 3.5 ounces. You should avoid high-fructose foods as well as moderately high-purine foods, which contain 150–200 milligrams of purine per 3.5 ounces.

Eat less seafood

A healthy diet is one in which you include all types of fish. However, some kinds of seafood are high in purine. Fish and seafood like shrimp, tuna, and shellfish are high in purines which can increase uric acid levels.

Stay away from grain alcohol

Alcohols such as beer, vodka or whiskey that are made from grain can also trigger gout. However, in the problem of uric acid, you should keep a distance from alcohol. Alcohol is a major source of purines that can increase uric acid levels.


Vegetables with high purine content include cauliflower, spinach and mushrooms. However, they do not increase the production of uric acid like other foods. You are advised to consume these vegetables in moderation.

Organ meat

Avoid red meat and organ meats such as liver, kidney and sweet bread. These contain very high levels of purines and contribute to high blood levels of uric acid.
