Exercising in the morning is considered good for health, but a recent study has revealed that doing physical activity in the evening (especially for people suffering from obesity) can provide more health benefits.
These findings, published in the journal 'Diabetes Care', are based on a study conducted on about 30,000 people in Australia, who were tracked for about 8 years. These people used wearable devices which recorded their activities in the form of data.
Researchers at the University of Sydney in Australia found that people who did moderate to vigorous aerobic exercise (which increases heart rate) between 6 pm and 12 am had the lowest risk of sudden death and death from heart disease.
Two-thirds of Australians are obese
Dr. Angelo Sabag, lead researcher of the study, says that due to many complex social factors, about two-thirds of people in Australia are either overweight or have obesity, which puts them at risk of heart attack, It greatly increases the risk of serious heart-related diseases like stroke and sudden death. In the study, the team did not just track planned exercise but focused on tracking aerobic exercise performed continuously for 3 minutes or more. They found that regularity of exercise was more important than the total duration of exercise.
Evening exercise may help control diabetes
Additionally, the team also found (which builds on previous research) that evening exercise may help reduce some of the tolerance and complications associated with diabetes or obesity. which are known to increase glucose tolerance at the end of the evening. However, Dr. Sabagh emphasized that exercise is not the only solution to the problem of obesity. But, he says, this study suggests that people who can plan their exercise at a certain time of day may be most successful in reducing some health risks.
