Curd is more popular than buttermilk. It is included in the diet for better digestion and health. But both curd and buttermilk are made with almost the same process.

What do experts say
According to her latest Instagram post by Dr. Dimple Jangda, curd has a warming effect, buttermilk on the other hand is naturally cooling. Experts explain in the video that yogurt contains an active bacterial strain that ferments when exposed to heat. So when we eat curd, it comes in contact with stomach heat and starts fermenting more aggressively. It heats the body instead of cooling it.

Ayurveda experts say that this does not happen with buttermilk because as soon as you add water to curd, the fermentation process stops. Adding spices like cumin powder, and salt to buttermilk increases its further benefits. Ghee is also mixed with asafoetida, ginger, chili, and curry leaves to aid digestion in India. In such a situation, buttermilk is naturally cold and curd takes more time to be digested by your body.
