Know about cholera disease.
Cholera is a disease caused by a bacterial infection in which there is a problem of severe diarrhea and vomiting. It is caused by drinking food or water contaminated with a bacterium called Vibrio cholera. The risk of cholera is higher in flood-affected areas or due to a lack of sanitation.
Cholera causes severe diarrhea and dehydration. Dehydration causes a rapid loss of minerals in your blood, which increases the imbalance of electrolytes in the body. If its symptoms are identified and treated in time, it can help reduce the severity and complications of the disease.
What are the symptoms of cholera?
Most cases of cholera cause diarrhea. This causes rapid loss of water in the body. Along with this, the problem of nausea and vomiting further increases the risk of dehydration. In people already suffering from a serious health problem, these symptoms can cause low blood pressure and shock.
If someone is having continuous diarrhea and vomiting for a few hours, then immediately give him an ORS solution and take him to the doctor.
Ways to prevent cholera and diarrhea
To avoid cholera and diarrhea, it is most important to take care of hand hygiene along with consuming clean food and water. Take care of cleanliness around the houses as well. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, and clean your hands thoroughly after using the toilet and before eating. Drink only clean water. It is most beneficial to drink bottled or boiled and cooled water. Do not eat stale food or things kept outside in the open.
Apart from this, if someone shows symptoms of cholera or diarrhea, keep giving them water, juice, or ORS solution to prevent dehydration. Timely treatment becomes very important in this disease.
