22 crore people in the country are suffering from high blood pressure. The way these cases are increasing and people are not aware of it is a very dangerous trend. The cases of hypertension and diabetes will increase further in the country in the next few years. This information has come to light from a study of "Hyper Diagnosis Treatment and Control in India" conducted in the country. In this regard, a special campaign is being run by the Community Medicine Center of All India Institute of Medical Sciences. During this period, the Community Medicine Center of AIIMS not only advised people to keep checking their blood pressure. Rather, preparations have been started to monitor the patients coming to AIIMS under a special campaign.
Doctor Sumit Malhotra of the Community Medicine Center of AIIMS says that the cases of hypertension are continuously increasing in the country. He says that the most important thing about this is that even the people who have the problem of hypertension or high blood pressure are not aware of it. Dr. Sumit says that according to a study conducted in 2023, about 22 crore adults in the country were found to have high blood pressure. This means that approximately one in four adults is suffering from high blood pressure. This study shows that three out of four people are not even aware of having high blood pressure. The study "Hyper Diagnosis Treatment and Control in India" also revealed that only one in five high blood pressure patients is getting treatment. Dr. Sumit says that it is a matter of concern that out of 12 high blood pressure patients, there is only one patient whose BP is under control.
Dr. Sumit says that AIIMS will monitor these patients under a campaign to stop this disease which is increasing in the country and to control its side effects. For this, AIIMS administration has started work on many schemes. In this, arrangements for monitors have been made in different departments including General Medicine, Cardiology, and Community Medicine Centre. Doctor Sumit said that hypertension is not only being treated at low cost in the country, but treatment is also available everywhere. Dr. Kiran Goswami, head of the Community Medicine Center, says that the problem of hypertension is most common among youth. The main reason for this is a spoiled lifestyle and smoking and drinking along with eating fried food from outside. She says that how cases are increasing and how much shocking information has come to light in recent studies is extremely alarming.
According to experts of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, people who have never had their blood pressure checked should get their BP checked once. If BP is found to be increased, then check your blood pressure for some time at regular intervals. If there is an increased reading in the blood pressure checked regularly and on time, then definitely contact the doctor. Doctor Yashpal Sharma of the Cardiological Society of India says that in today's changed routine, if the blood pressure reading remains within 140/90, then it comes under the category of normal hypertension. Whereas a reading above 140/90 means high blood pressure. Doctor Yashpal says that the manner in which recent studies have confirmed that people are not aware of high blood pressure even after having it is a matter of great concern. Therefore, every youth should get his blood pressure checked.
