According to yoga, the human body is made up of five elements – fire, water, air, earth and sky (space). When there is an imbalance in these elements, it can often result in hair problems.

Mudras are hand gestures, and they work because our fingers contain these five elements. Thus, when we attempt yoga mudra using our hands and fingers, it generates energy flow. Mudras increase blood circulation which triggers the supply of nutrients to the body, thickening and nourishing the hair.

Some mudras also restore prana in the cells, which helps prevent greying of hair. By restoring the elements of the earth, the mudras strengthen the hair tissue, thus allaying the concerns of hair breakage. Therefore, practising specific postures regularly helps in strengthening the hair roots, reducing hair fall, nourishing the dry scalp and making hair thicker.
