It is rare to see Lord Ganesha being worshiped and Modak not being included in the Prasad. Actually, Lord Ganesha loves Modak very much. Everyone knows this. Even if fifty-six dishes are offered to Lord Ganesha, he does not become happy without Modak. This is the reason why Modak is offered in the worship of Lord Ganesha. Two days are left for the Ganpati festival and people have started preparations. To please Bappa and offer his favorite dish, people are exploring different recipes to make Modak. But do you know why Lord Ganesha loves Modak so much? Why is Modak offered during Ganpati Utsav or Ganesh Puja? There is a special reason behind this, so let us know why Modak is so dear to Lord Ganesha.
Lord Ganesha likes Modak for these five reasons
First reason: According to the popular story, once Lord Shiva was sleeping and Lord Ganesha was guarding the door. When Parshuram reached there, Ganesh ji stopped him at the door. Parashuram became angry and started fighting with Ganesha. In the war, Parashuram attacked Ganesh ji with the halberd given by Lord Shiva. Due to this one of Ganesh ji's teeth broke. Due to broken teeth, Ganesh ji started having trouble chewing food, so modaks were prepared for him. Modaks are soft and do not require chewing. That's why Ganesh ji ate modaks to his heart's content. Since then Modak has become Ganpati's favorite dish.
Second reason: A story is related to Lord Ganesha and Mother Anusuiya. Once Lord Ganapati had gone to Anusuiya's house with Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva. Mother Anusuiya thought that first food should be served to Lord Ganesha. She kept feeding food to Lord Ganesha but Lord Ganesha's hunger was not ending. Anusuiya thought that if she fed him something sweet then maybe Ganpati's stomach would be filled. Mother Anusuiya fed a piece of Modak to Ganesh ji, as soon as he ate it, Ganesh ji's stomach became full and he belched loudly. After this, Lord Shiva belched loudly 21 times. Since then Modak came to be known as Ganpati's favorite dish.
Third reason: It is believed that if 21 modaks are offered to Lord Ganesha, then along with him, the stomach of all the other gods and goddesses is also filled. For this reason, Modak is offered to Ganapati. So that along with them, blessings of all other Gods and Goddesses can also be received.
Fourth reason: If we look at the words, Mod means happiness or joy. Ganesh ji is always happy and brings happiness to the lives of his devotees by removing their troubles. That is why Lord Ganesha is also called the remover of obstacles. Devotees also offer Modak, which means happiness, to please Lord Ganesha.
Fifth reason: It is said that Modak is made of nectar. After making it, the Gods gave a divine Modak to Mother Parvati. When Lord Ganesha came to know about the divine modak made from nectar, he had a desire to eat it. He received Modak from Mother Parvati and ate it and since then he has become fond of Modak.
