Full Moon 2023: If you are fond of star gazing i.e. watching the moon and stars in the night sky, then there is good news for you. In fact, in August, you are getting a chance to see the Supermoon not once but twice. A supermoon occurs when the Moon is closest to Earth on a full moon day, making it appear 14% larger and 30% brighter than when farthest.
People will get to see the Full Moon for the first time on Tuesday evening, August 1, when it will be only 357,530 km away from Earth. At the same time, on the night of Wednesday 30 August, it will come closer i.e. only 357,344 km away. When two supermoons appear in the same month, it is known as Blue Moon.
Full Moon
The Full Moon usually appears once a month and marks the completion of a lunar cycle. A full Moon is the condition of the Moon when the Moon is fully visible from Earth. This happens when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon while orbiting. In other words, when an angle of 180° is formed between the sun and the moon. Then the full moon appears.
Super Moon
A super moon is a term used to describe a full moon. On a super moon, the moon appears bigger and brighter than usual during the night. It can also be called a kind of optical illusion. During this, the Full Moon reaches very close to the Earth and appears 14% larger and 30% brighter.
Sturgeon Moon
The sturgeon moon is said to be the full moon seen in August. This name is given by the Native American people. This is because every year in August, an abundance of sturgeon fish was found in the lake. Different cultures have given a different name to each full moon, often associated with seasonal changes, agricultural activities, or natural phenomena observed during that time.
Blue Moon
A blue moon is called the full moon, which is falling for the second time in a month. As you know that usually, the full moon is visible only once a month, but many times it also happens when the full moon is seen twice in the same month. Whenever this happens, the second Full Moon is called a Blue Moon. However, Blue Moon does not look blue as the name suggests, it is just plain white in color. It is named simply according to the calendar. Blue moons are rarely seen, like once in 2 to 3 years.
