Conjunctivitis causes burning and stinging in one of your eyes. You try to open your eyes in the morning, but they do not open. Eyes constantly itch and remain red. Viral and bacterial conjunctivitis are contagious. It can easily spread from one person to another. What is Conjunctivitis?

Pink eye occurs when the conjunctiva, which covers the white part of your eye, becomes infected and becomes inflamed and swollen. It can be due to allergies, bacterial and viral infections. It is contagious and spreads through contact with secretions from the eyes of an infected person.

What are the symptoms of conjunctivitis?

As we told you that it is an infection in the eyes and before that identifies the symptoms like this-

  • Itching and burning sensation starts in the eyes.
  • The white part of the eyes starts turning pale pink.
  • Swelling is seen in the conjunctiva and the eyes are always moist.
  • In many cases, there is pus formation and discharge in the eye.
  • In the morning, crust starts forming in the eyelids and there is difficulty in opening the eyes.

Viral conjunctivitis can be caused by cold, flu and other respiratory infections. In this, the infection first occurs in one eye and then spreads to both. The secretion coming out of the eyes is thick.

In bacterial conjunctivitis, pus starts forming in the eyes and it sticks to the eyelids. Sometimes due to this, there is an infection in the ear as well. On the other hand, allergic conjunctivitis occurs in both eyes and causes severe itching, watery discharge and swelling of the eyes. It also causes itching in the nose. Sore throat persists and the problem of sneezing increases.

What to do if you have conjunctivitis?

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explains the symptoms of conjunctivitis as well as its prevention. If you have got an infection, keep these things in mind-
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. Wash your hands for 20 seconds before cleaning your eyes or applying any ointment. Also, always keep sanitizer with you.
  • Avoid touching your eyes frequently. There is a lot of itching in the eyes during infection; in this case, the eyes should not be rubbed.
  • Clean the frozen pus near the eyes only by washing your hands. Use only clean cotton to clean the eyes.
  • Wash your pillow covers, bedsheets and towels thoroughly in hot water.
  • Do not use contact lenses for some time. Consult your doctor and use them only if he says so.
  • Avoid sharing your items. Do not exchange any kind of makeup product or other things at all.

If someone around you has conjunctivitis, then you should take care of your health. If there is contact with an infected person, immediately wash your hands with soap. Do not touch any of his things at all. Avoid touching your eyes. Keep these things in mind and avoid the risk of infection.
