Pulses are an important part of Indian food. Mainly different types of pulses are eaten for dinner. Dal Palak is a very famous dish in North India. Spinach pairs well with lentils. People like it a lot and eat it with gusto. The special thing is that apart from being tasty, it is also healthy. Along with rich protein, it contains many elements which are beneficial for health. This is a very good example of a balanced diet. Although spinach is available throughout the year it is eaten mostly in winter. In such a situation, make everyone happy by making delicious dal palak with the easy method given by us.
Ingredients
1 cup yellow moong dal
1 cup chopped spinach
1-2 finely chopped green chillies
1 cup chopped onion
2 dry whole red chillies
1 chopped tomato
5-6 garlic paste
1-inch ginger paste
2-3 curry leaves
half teaspoon red chilli powder
half a teaspoon turmeric powder
half teaspoon cumin
a pinch of asafoetida
salt as per taste
juice of 1 lemon
some oil
Recipe
- First of all wash and soak the moong dal for half an hour.
After this, add lentils, tomatoes, a pinch of asafoetida, and water in a pressure cooker and cook for 2-3 whistles.
Then remove it from the flame and keep it aside to cool.
Now heat oil in a pan or wok.
- After it gets hot, add cumin, ginger, garlic, and fry for a few seconds.
Now add dry whole red chilli, curry leaves, chopped green chili, chopped onion, salt and fry the onion till it turns golden brown.
- Now add chopped spinach, turmeric powder, red chili powder and cook for 2-3 minutes while stirring.
- After this add cooked lentils and mix well.
Let it boil and cook on low flame for 3-4 minutes.
- Turn off the gas and add lemon juice. Dal spinach is ready. Serve it with rice, roti or naan.
