The coronavirus pandemic that started in the last months of 2019 is still not over. Even though the cases of infection are less internationally these days, Corona is not gone yet. Health experts say that all people need to remain cautious about its risks. Many variants are still active in many countries including the US-UK, but every week a large number of people are dying due to infection around the world.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said in a report released earlier this month that about 1,700 people are dying every week worldwide due to infection. The risk of corona has not been reduced yet.

Health experts have said that another booster vaccine should be given to further strengthen the immune system of people in places where cases of infection are being reported continuously. Especially people above 65 years of age can be protected against infection from new variants by giving them another vaccine.

The threat of new variants of Corona

Media reports show that the new variant of Corona, FLiRT, is spreading rapidly in many countries. Many sub-variants of Omicron are constantly increasing difficulties. With the change in the spike protein of Corona, the risk of new variants remains.

The spike protein found on the surface of the SARS-CoV-2 virus helps the virus to attach to human cells. These sub-variants arise from mutations in the genetic code of the virus. Variants like Omicron and its sub-variants have been causing infections in many countries for more than a year.

What does the WHO Director-General say?

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the decline in vaccination coverage could be a major reason for the ongoing threat of corona in many countries.

Cases of new variants of COVID-19 are constantly coming to the fore. With every new mutation, the ability of this virus to escape immunity and its rate of infection also increases. This ability of new variants may be the reason for the increase in the risks of corona and cases of infection. Another vaccine may be helpful in protecting against the risks caused by new variants.

Advice to take another booster vaccine

Earlier in a report published in The New York Times, the CDC said that most Americans have acquired immunity against the coronavirus from repeated infection or vaccination, or both. However, studies have shown that vaccines are effective only for a few months and their effectiveness decreases over time. To reduce this risk, all people need to take updated Covid shots.

CDC Director Dr. Mandy Cohen has accepted the unanimous advice of scientists and recommended another dose of vaccination.
