Cold has knocked. With the drop in temperature, the risk of many health problems has increased. It is quite common to have a cold and cough during cold days. Sometimes there is such a cough that it does not stop. Often you must have noticed that severe cough occurs only at night. Many times, coughing turns from night to morning. Have you wondered why this happens? We talked to health expert Dr Tariq Azad about this.

Why does the cough get worse at night?

Experts say that according to research, the immune system follows the cardiac rhythm. Cells involved in healing and inflammation such as white blood cells become active in the evening and night. When white blood cells become active, we often experience problems like colds and coughs as symptoms.

Whereas when you are standing or sitting during the day, mucus gets released from your nose or throat more easily. But that congestion is more likely to stick to the back of your throat when you lie down at night and trigger your cough response more often. Your lungs are also affected by cardiac rhythm. This makes the airways of the lungs narrower at night. As a result, symptoms of cough and difficulty breathing can worsen.

Another reason for coughing while sleeping is that some stomach contents get stuck in the food pipe, due to which cough also occurs. At the same time, cough increases at night in people who are allergic to dust and dirt.
