Here's a simple and delicious Chili Garlic Tofu recipe that you can try:

Ingredients:

14 ounces (400g) firm tofu, drained and cut into bite-sized cubes

3 tablespoons cornstarch or cornflour

2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)

4-5 cloves garlic, minced

2-3 red chilies, thinly sliced (adjust according to your spice preference)

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon chili sauce (such as Sriracha or Sambal Oelek)

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon brown sugar or honey (adjust to your taste)

1/4 cup water or vegetable broth

2 green onions, sliced (green parts for garnish)

Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

Start by preparing the tofu. Cut the tofu block into bite-sized cubes and place them on a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Pat them gently with another paper towel to dry them.

In a shallow bowl, add cornstarch or cornflour. Toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch, ensuring they are evenly coated.

In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the pan. Fry the tofu until it becomes crispy and golden brown on all sides. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes. Once done, remove the tofu from the pan and set it aside on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.

In the same pan, leave about 1 tablespoon of oil (discard any excess) and reduce the heat to medium.

Add the minced garlic and sliced red chilies to the pan. Sauté them for about a minute or until the garlic becomes aromatic and slightly golden.

In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, chili sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar or honey, and water or vegetable broth.

Pour the sauce mixture into the pan with garlic and chilies. Stir well and let it simmer for a minute or two, allowing the flavors to blend.

Add the fried tofu back into the pan, coating the tofu evenly with the chili garlic sauce.

Toss the tofu in the sauce for another minute until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the tofu well.

Turn off the heat and garnish the Chili Garlic Tofu with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
