If we look at the data of the last decade, it is known that many types of health problems are increasing in the Indian population. The risk of diabetes and heart disease is now being seen even in younger people. Health experts say that high cholesterol is one of the reasons responsible for this disease. The problem of constantly increasing cholesterol can cause heart attack and stroke.
Data shows that about 30 percent of the Indian population has the problem of high cholesterol. Many of these people are unaware of their condition. If cholesterol is not paid attention to or it is not kept under control, then it can cause serious heart problems and even heart attacks.
Cholesterol accumulates in our arteries and obstructs the circulation of blood, due to which the supply of blood to the heart is reduced. This is the main reason for heart attack, about which all people need to be careful.
Danger in American people too
The number of people affected by high cholesterol is not only high in India. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), its risk is also being seen in American adults. One in every 10 American adults is living with high cholesterol levels. Data from the years 2021 to 2023 shows that 11.3% of adults have high cholesterol problems.
Health experts said, this can be considered a reason for increasing heart diseases worldwide, about which all people need to be alert. Cholesterol problems are seen more in men than women.
The risk of a heart attack may increase.
Health experts said when the blood cholesterol level is 300 mg/dL or more, the risk of heart attack more than doubles. Cholesterol can cause blockage in the arteries, due to which there is a risk of not only heart attack but also stroke and death due to it.
Health experts said that people who drink alcohol or smoke are more at risk of health problems caused by high cholesterol than others.
Why does cholesterol increase?
Doctors say that many reasons can be responsible for increasing cholesterol. Disturbances in routine and diet increase the risk of this significantly. If you consume an unhealthy diet, lack physical activity, or are troubled by being overweight, then all these can increase the risk of high cholesterol. Consuming more saturated and trans fat items like red meat, full-fat dairy products, butter, and cream can also increase the risk.
Some studies show that people who take more stress or consume alcohol are also at higher risk.
How to keep cholesterol under control?
The doctor said cholesterol can be kept under control by making some changes in the routine. For this, it is most important that you consume healthy and nutritious things. It is considered beneficial to make foods rich in soluble fiber like beans, lentils, fruits, and vegetables a part of the diet. Studies have found that consuming avocado, nuts-seeds and olive oil is beneficial in preventing cholesterol from increasing and keeping the heart healthy.
Along with a healthy diet, also increases physical activity. Make it a habit to do aerobic exercise like walking, running, or cycling for at least 30 minutes a week. You can also benefit from this.
