What is this brain stroke? Which people are more at risk and how to prevent it? Information about this is being given by Dr. Sumit Goyal, Senior Neurosurgeon PSRI Hospital.

Brain stroke occurs when there is an obstruction in the flow of blood to the brain. This happens when the nerve of the brain gets blocked. When a blockage occurs in the arteries that supply blood to the brain, the blood does not move forward and starts accumulating there, which puts pressure on the veins. Blood vessels break and start leaking. Due to this, blood and oxygen are not able to reach the brain tissue. Without oxygen, brain cells become damaged. This can cause physical and mental disability. If it is not treated as soon as possible, the person may even die.

According to experts, brain stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide. At the same time, this is the third major cause of disability. This is an emergency. The victim should be immediately rushed to the hospital, where medicine or neuro-endovascular techniques are used to restore blood supply to the brain followed by a brain scan. This can prevent damage to the brain.
