A study by the Indian Council of Medicine and Research (ICMR) has found that antibody levels against SARS-CoV-2 increase after a booster dose of the anti-Covid vaccine, Covaccine.
Giving this information, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Bharti Praveen Prawar told the Rajya Sabha that this study was done to find out the effect of booster dose of Covaccine vaccine.He said in a written reply to a question that available international data on booster doses of AstraZeneca and Covishield vaccines show that there is a three to four-fold increase in antibody levels after taking it.Pawar said, “ICMR conducted a study to find out the effect of booster dose of Covaccine vaccine. It was found that there is an increase in the level of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 after the booster dose.
He informed that as per the recommendation of National Technology Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI), from January 10, 2022, booster doses of anti-Covid vaccine are being given to health workers, frontline workers and people above 60 years of age.
He said that as on March 24, 2022, 2.21 crore booster doses of anti-Covid vaccine have been administered.
