When Elon Musk became the owner of X (formerly Twitter), he said that his priority was to eliminate bots from Twitter. To a large extent, Elon Musk was successful in this, but since he started the ad revenue program, bots have returned to X. According to a report, with the help of bots on X, fake accounts are being created using profile photos and selfies of X users.
Indiana University has said in one of its reports that 1,140 such bots with artificial intelligence support have been identified on X which are creating thousands of fake accounts every day. For this, they are using photos of users. These bots have been identified as the "Fox8" botnet. These bot accounts are creating fake content and creating fake profiles using AI tools like ChatGPT.
Posts related to cryptocurrency are being made from fake accounts created by these bots on X and people are being asked to invest in Bitcoin. False news is also being shared through the Fox8 botnet account. These bots are sharing posts ranging from elections to health. Fake and malware links are also being shared from these accounts.
The researchers did not disclose the name of the account involved. It has been said in the report that some phrases from these accounts are being used repeatedly. After this report came out, X deleted about 1,140 bot accounts, although you should be alert about your profile photo and pictures.
