One always remembers Narendra Modi when it comes to Ahmedabad. From Sabarmati River Front to Gandhi Ashram, everything is considered very good here. Ahmedabad is one of the few cities in the country which is known for its development. If seen, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also made many promises in his election campaign while praising the Ahmedabad model. A few days ago some people of my acquaintance had gone to Ahmedabad and there they told me an interesting thing. In many areas of Ahmedabad, people have painted the roofs of their homes white.

Surely you must have been a little surprised to know about it that what the reason for painting it white is. The way Jaipur has got the status of Pink City and people in Jodhpur have painted houses blue colour, is it the same way with Ahmedabad?

But it is not so. The whitewashing of roofs of houses in Ahmedabad tells a different story and it can certainly be considered positive news. Not only does it look good, but it also has many benefits.

To keep the house cool, the residents of Ahmedabad paint white

Ahmedabad is one of the hottest cities in the country and the temperature in this city crosses 40 degrees in April itself. During this, the problem of people falling ill also increases a lot and at the same time, problems like asthma, fever, viral etc. together with dehydration cause a lot of trouble. While the weather in Maharashtra has become excellent due to the monsoon at this time, a state like Gujarat is still facing heat and humidity.

In such a situation, people paint the roofs of their houses white. Along with this, modular cooling roofs are also installed in many homes in which recycled coconut shells, paper waste etc. It is a waterproof system and does not allow the house to get too hot in summer.

In many homes, the roof is painted white every year or modular ceilings are installed.

This practice started a few years ago

This is mostly seen in the slum areas of Ahmedabad and in 2016 it was done on a very large scale. A few years back, it was vigorously promoted by Mahila Housing Service Trust (MHT), an organization based in Ahmedabad. Some people apply simple paint or lime to their roofs and some use solar reflecting paint.

This paint helps a lot not only in the summer season but also in the rainy and humidity season.

Helps a lot in reducing the electricity bill

In a report by news agency ANI, it was also told that due to this, electricity bill also has a lot of impacts. Around Rs 400-500 per month can also make a difference.
