A research team from Benaras Hindu University has found that the constituents of the neem tree can help fight cancer. The team reported in-vito and in-vivo therapeutic efficacy of Nimbolide (a bioactive ingredient of the neem tree) against T-cell lymphoma. He has strongly advocated the importance of Nimbolide as a potential anti-cancer therapeutic drug for the treatment of hematological malignancy.

India's research published in an international journal

According to BHU spokesperson Rajesh Singh, the new results of this research have been published in two volumes in a popular international journal 'Environmental Toxicology'. Research student Pradip Kumar Jayaswara worked with researchers Vishal Kumar Gupta, Rajan Kumar Tiwari and Shiv Govind Rawat and developed it as a UGC start-up. The research was funded by a grant (UGC Start-up Research Grant).

Neem tree is very beneficial

The researchers said that neem is a traditional medicinal plant, whose flowers and leaves are widely used for the treatment of many diseases due to their medicinal properties, including anti-parasitic, anti-bacterial, anti-traditional medicine.

Effective against cancer

Recently, Nimbolide, a bio-active ingredient isolated from neem leaves and flowers, has been identified as one of the main molecules behind its medicinal values. The anti-tumor efficacy of Nimbolide has been evaluated against only a few cancers.
