Due to a lack of balance and a nutritious diet, 17 crore people die yearly. The report titled 'State of India's Environment 2022: In Figures' states that due to poor diet, there are more respiratory diseases, diabetes, cancer, and heart attack. It has been told in the report that the diet lacks fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

In India, people aged 20 and above eat only 35.8 grams of fruit per day, compared to the recommended 200 grams per day. At the same time, people are eating only 168.7 grams of vegetables as compared to a minimum of 300 grams of vegetables. People consume only 24.9 grams of pulses (25 percent of the target) and 3.2 grams of nuts or nuts (13 percent of the target) per day.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, a healthy diet is not considered affordable when it costs more than 63 percent of a person's income. The report also analyzed the prices of food items. The analysis shows that food prices have increased significantly in rural areas as compared to urban areas in March-April 2022.
