There is a danger of Moka storm in the Bay of Bengal these days, but a different storm came into Bengal on Thursday evening. Such a storm in which there was no loss of life or property, but records were definitely destroyed. In IPL 2023, the stormy innings of Rajasthan Royals' young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (98 not out) at Eden Gardens, the home ground of Kolkata Knight Riders, showed off. Jaiswal scored the fastest half-century in IPL history, on the basis of which Rajasthan defeated Kolkata by 9 wickets.

The evening of Thursday 11th May at Eden Gardens completely belonged to the Rajasthan Royals. Firstly, Yuzvendra Chahal and Trent Boult restricted Kolkata to a modest score of 149 runs. After this, the explosion of Yashasvi Jaiswal destroyed the bowling of Kolkata. The young opener of just 22 years played the most explosive innings of IPL 2023 and gave the team an easy win.

Jaiswal storm

To prevent Rajasthan from reaching 150 runs, Kolkata needed to do something special in bowling and fielding. In fielding, the team succeeded in running out Jos Buttler (0) in the second over itself, but before and after that his condition remained bad. Yashasvi Jaiswal hit Kolkata captain Nitish Rana for 26 runs in the very first over.

Jaiswal's attack continued even after this and he hit a half-century in just 13 balls while raining boundaries. It also became the fastest fifty in IPL history. He broke the record of KL Rahul (14 balls). His half-century was completed on the fifth ball of the third over itself.

Just missed the century

On the other hand, captain Sanju Samson (48 not out, 29 balls) also showed his mettle after waiting for some time and hit three sixes in a single over. Although he tried his best to reach Yashasvi Jaiswal to the century it did not happen. Rajasthan needed only 3 runs to win and Jaiswal needed 6 runs for a century.

Tried a six on the first ball of the 14th over but got only 4 runs. Yashasvi remained unbeaten after scoring 98 runs (47 balls, 12 fours, 5 sixes) and gave Rajasthan a memorable victory.

KKR shattered by Chahal's record

Kolkata did not have a good start earlier and lost the opening pair of Jason Roy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the powerplay itself. Both wickets were taken by Trent Boult (2/15), but Shimron Hetmyer and Sandeep Sharma's excellent catches contributed to this. Rajasthan's good fielding and catching continued even further and it also got good results.

Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana (22) tried to handle the situation but Yuzvendra Chahal broke it by dismissing the KKR captain. Along with this wicket, Chahal also made a record.

He became the highest wicket-taker in IPL. Chahal broke the record of Dwayne Bravo (183). The havoc of Chahal (4/25) continued even after this and he also took important wickets of Venkatesh Iyer (57), Rinku Singh, and Shardul Thakur in his next 3 overs. Venkatesh definitely hit a half-century but still, Kolkata could score only 149 runs after losing 8 wickets.
