Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by a huge margin of 81 runs in the 9th match of IPL 2023 on Thursday. This was KKR's first win in two matches. Earlier, he had got a 7-run defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings in Mohali based on the Duckworth-Lewis method.
Kolkata Knight Riders batted first at Eden Gardens and scored 204 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. After this, the spinners of KKR spread their fire and stacked RCB for 123 runs in 17.4 overs. This was RCB's first defeat in the current IPL. Earlier, he made a winning start to the tournament by defeating Mumbai Indians.
KKR gets upset
The condition of the Kolkata Knight Riders who came out to bat first was very bad. He had lost five wickets on the score of 89 runs. Looking at the rhythm in which the RCB bowlers were, it seemed that the hosts would be all out within 150 runs. But then Shardul Thakur (68) and Rinku Singh (46) became the team's troubleshooters.
Both these batsmen saved KKR from embarrassment at their home ground by sharing a century partnership. Shardul-Rinku added 103 runs for the sixth wicket and took the team to 190 runs.
The partnership ended with the dismissal of Rinku Singh. Rinku Singh scored 46 runs in 33 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes. Shardul Thakur scored 68 runs in 29 balls with the help of 9 fours and three sixes. Their partnership proved to be the turning point of the match.
Spinners spread the fire
KKR spinners have made the record of taking the most wickets in an inning. Varun Chakraborty (4 wickets), Suyash Sharma (3 wickets), and Sunil Narine (2 wickets) took 9 wickets together. Earlier, the record of taking the most wickets by spinners in an inning was recorded in the name of Chennai Super Kings. CSK spinners took 8 wickets against Delhi in Visakhapatnam in 2012.
