Shahbaz Ahmed's performance in IPL 2022 while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore was excellent. Shahbaz was amazing with both bat and ball and played a key role in helping RCB reach the second qualifier. Meanwhile, Shahbaz has told that he did not want the RCB team to buy him in the IPL 2020 auction.
Shahbaz wanted to remain unsold
Talking on RCB's podcast, the star all-rounder revealed that he was suffering from a shoulder injury at the time of the auction and that's why he didn't want to play in the IPL that season. He said, "I didn't think that the RCB team would pick me, it was quite a surprise for me. To be honest, at that time I was battling with a shoulder injury. Every cricketer wants to play in the IPL and my domestic was a wonderful season. Association people were telling me that I might get a chance in the auction."
RCB will show confidence was not expected
Shahbaz further said, "I didn't think that the RCB team will buy me. Even I was thinking that no team should buy me and I remain unsold because I did not want to go to IPL with an injury. If I am not fit, then it will be a bad season for me."
The RCB bowler also told the full story of his selection in the auction. He said, "My teammate Ishan Porel was first bought by Punjab Kings. Then it was my turn. Nobody bought me on the first attempt and I was very happy. I breathed a sigh of relief while switching off the TV. At the end of the auction, my friends told me that I have been bought by RCB."
