'Pathan' was Shahrukh's comeback film after a gap of four years, which was preceded by several unsuccessful films. In 2023, the veteran actor shed his loverboy image and decided to return to big-budget action films instead. 'Pathan' was a massive hit, breaking many earning records and closing with a gross of Rs 1050 crore, making it the second highest-grossing Hindi film at that time.
The records created by Pathan were eventually broken by his second release of the year – Jawan. The revenge drama has grossed Rs 1100 crore, including a good Rs 60 crore from the dubbed versions, the highest for any Hindi film. Shahrukh's other release this year is Dunky which is his first collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani.

Hirani's social drama Dinky, on illegal immigration, also stars Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal and is expected to release in theaters before Christmas this year. The film will clash with another big-budget film - Salaar - a Telugu pan-India film from KGF-fame Prashanth Neel, starring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles.
