Director Leena Manikemalai has got relief from the Supreme Court in the black poster controversy case. In the matter, the Supreme Court has directed not to take any action against Leena, as well as notices have been issued to those who filed cases against the director.

Kali Poster Controversy: The Supreme Court has issued an order not to take any coercive steps against director Leena Manimekalai in the Devi 'Kali Poster Controversy' case. In the case, the Supreme Court has fixed the next hearing on February 17, while also issuing notices to the people who filed the case against Leena.

FIR lodged in many states

Several cases were filed against filmmaker Leena in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Uttarakhand for showing Goddess Kali smoking a cigarette.

The next hearing will be on February 17

The Supreme Court has fixed the next hearing in the matter on February. Along with this, the Supreme Court has also given instructions not to take any coercive action against Leena.

Leena demanded the Supreme Court dismiss the petition

Leena had demanded the Supreme Court dismiss all the cases filed across the country together. After which the matter was placed before a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. After which the hearing of the matter was fixed on January 20. After which a hearing was held in this matter today.

What did Leena say in her plea?

Director Leena, in her plea, said that, as a creative filmmaker, her endeavor was not to hurt anyone's religious sentiments but to show the image of a fundamentally inclusive goddess. He further said that his documentary film reflects the broad views of Goddess Kali. In the case, Leena has challenged the ongoing proceedings against her in the district courts of Hazratganj in Lucknow, Ratlam, Bhopal, and Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Haridwar in Uttarakhand, and Delhi.

Getting beheading threats after tweeting the poster

Filmmaker Leena Manimekalai says she has been receiving constant death threats and 'beheading' threats ever since she tweeted the poster of her film. Along with this, they are also being harassed by making threatening calls. In the hearing, Leena had said that the multiple FIRs registered against her, her harassment, and violation of her freedom of expression and fundamental rights to speak.

In this short film, the Hindu goddess 'Kali' was shown smoking a cigarette. Since then this matter is in discussions and many people are opposing it.
