Veteran Bollywood actress Farooq Zafar has died at the age of 89. Farooq Zafar is known for his film 'Gulabo Sitabo'. His eldest daughter Mehru Zafar has confirmed the news of his death. He said the mother was not well. He was admitted to Sahara Hospital in Lucknow earlier this month. He died at the hospital on Friday evening. He is survived by two daughters, Mehru and Shaheen.

Mehru Zafar said he was admitted to the hospital on October 4 due to difficulty in breathing. He was unwell. Their lungs were unable to take in the oxygen they were given. He breathed his last at around 6 in the evening.

"My grandmother and freedom fighter, wife of former MLC SM Zafar and veteran actress Farooq Zafar passed away in Lucknow this evening," Shaaz Ahmed, grandson of Farooq Zafar, wrote on Twitter.

Farooq Zafar was a radio announcer in Lucknow in 1963. He made his silver screen debut in 1981 with 'Umrao Jaan'. In it, she played the role of Rekha's mother. He also acted in Aamir Khan's 'People Live' and 'Swades' with Shah Rukh Khan. Besides, she was also seen in 'Sultan'. He played the role of Amitabh Bachchan's wife Fatima Begum in 'Gulabo Sitabo'.
