Ranbir Kapoor starrer 'Shamshera' failed to do much at the box office. The film raked in around Rs 32 crore in its first weekend after release, which is very less for this big-budget film. In such a situation, the pain of director Karan Malhotra for not playing the film is visible.

Angry over the failure of his film, Karan Malhotra said that he could not handle the hatred and anger. He wrote on social media- "My dear Shamshera, you are as majestic as you are. I need to express myself on this platform because this is the place where love, hate, celebration, and humiliation exist around you. I want to apologize for a few days because I can't handle the hatred and anger".

The director further wrote – My return was my weakness and there is no excuse for it. Now I am here, standing next to you and feeling proud and honored that you are mine. We will face everything together, the good, the bad, and the ugly. My love to the entire Shamshera team. The love, blessings, and concern showered on us are the most precious and no one can take them away from us. In the end, he wrote with the hashtag, 'Shamshera is mine.'

At the same time, supporting Karan, Sanjay Dutt wrote - "It was a long journey of 4 years in which everyone's blood, sweat is involved. 'Every film may get the audience late but the loss is also done but surprised. It is a matter of fact that Shamshera is being disliked by people who haven't even seen the film, it is not right. Karan Malhotra is one of those directors who gave me a character like Kancha Cheena. I will always support him".

Directed by Karan Malhotra and produced under the banner of 'Yash Raj Films' (YRF), 'Shamshera' was released in theaters on July 22. The film earned Rs 10.25 crore on the first day, Rs 10.50 crore on the second day, and Rs 11 crore on the third day. The film has so far earned Rs 31.75 crore." The film also stars Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor.
