On the petition of Anushka Sharma, the High Court has asked the Sales Tax Department to respond.
Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma is in the headlines and the reason is not related to her upcoming film but to sales tax. In fact, in the years 2012 and 2016, the Sales Tax Department sent notices to Anushka Sharma for depositing tax. Now Anushka Sharma has challenged that notice. Now the Bombay High Court has sought an answer from the sales department in this matter. The matter will be heard on February 6.
Anushka was reprimanded by the court
Let us tell you that before this petition was filed by Anushka's tax consultant, then the court reprimanded the actress and said that why did she not file the petition herself. Now Anushka Sharma herself has raised questions on the Sales Tax Department by filing a new petition.
The Sales Tax Department has asked Anushka Sharma to pay taxes for promoting products and anchoring award shows, but the actress says that she has performed as an artist in the show. She said that the copyright of the video is with the producers and they are the owners, the artist has no role in it.
Anushka has said in her petition that she participates in any product promotion or function as an artiste under a tripartite agreement with her agent, Yash Raj Films Pvt Ltd, or the producers or organizers of the event. The assigning officer has imposed sales tax not on any of her films but on product endorsement and award show anchoring.
The sales tax department demanded a sales tax of Rs 1.2 crore for Rs 12.3 crore in the year 2012-13 and Rs 1.6 crore for Rs 17 crore in the year 2013-14. The Court has now asked the Sales Tax Department to respond to the plea within three weeks, and the matter will be heard next on February 6.
