A man bought a shiny car for Rs 20 lakh, but it turned out to be his stolen car
A shocking case has come to light from the West Midlands of the UK. According to the BBC, a 36-year-old software engineer from Solihull, West Midlands had a shocking experience when his stolen car was recovered in a strange manner. In February, Evan Valentine's black Honda Civic was suddenly stolen from his driveway. Despite reporting the incident to the police, he was told that there was little hope of recovering his car.
When his insurance company agreed to pay, Valentine used the money to buy another car. He found another black Honda Civic and bought it for £20,000 (Rs 22 lakh). However, on closer inspection, he realised that the new car was actually his stolen car.
Valentin had unknowingly bought back his own car, which had been stolen a month earlier. The incident has left him shocked. He told the BBC that he was "very sad" when his car was stolen, and decided to replace it with the same model.
He said, "It was a kind of mid-life crisis car, and you don't find many like that, so I was very determined to replace it before one day I had to get a kind of family car, so I saw a car that looked exactly like it, same colour, same year, it was perfect value for money."
He added, "I found a few things in the car that were a little bit odd, like a tent peg and some Christmas tree pine and some, like, Mars Bar wrappers and things that they hadn't cleaned up, all of which were exactly like what you would see in my stolen car."
Despite the car having new license plates and low mileage, Valentine's suspicions were confirmed when he later looked up his and his parents' addresses in the built-in navigation system's history. "I nearly passed out, to be honest, because I was in shock... my hands were shaking; my heart was pounding," he said.
He added, "For a moment I felt a sense of triumph, then I realised, no, this is not something to be happy about; you didn't go and get your car back; you did something really stupid."
