Kidambi Srikanth of India defeated England's Toby Penty in 37 minutes in the opening round of the Denmark Open. Former World No.1 Srikanth defeated Toby 21-12 and 21-18 in the International Badminton Tournament which started 7 months later due to Corona. Srikanth shocked everyone by winning 4 titles in 2017.
Indian player can be completed in next round
Fifth seed Srikanth may face either Subhankar Dey of India or Jason Anthony Ho-Shui of Canada in the next round. Lakshya Sen has already reached the second round. He defeated Christo Popov of France on Tuesday. In the next round, they will face Hannes-Christian Solberg Witteungus of Denmark.
The 19-year-old, who had won 5 titles, including 2 Super-100 tournaments last year, beat Popov 21-9 21-5 in a brilliant performance. The Denmark Open 750 is the only event to be held this year, which will run until 18 October. The Badminton World Federation has already canceled several tournaments. The Asia leg and the World Tour Finals have also been postponed until next year.
Sindhu and Saina are not playing
Indian shuttler and Olympic medalist PV Sindhu withdrew from Denmark Open at the Olympics. Saina Nehwal also decided not to play in the tournament. The World Badminton Association (WBF) had earlier canceled the Thomas and Uber Cup finals as well as Denmark Masters.
