It is said that Britain wanted to liberate India, not in 1947, but in 1948, but being upset by Mahatma Gandhi's 'Quit India Movement', the British thought of liberating India a year earlier i.e. on 15 August 1947. Decided. The war of independence in India had already started since 1930.
In the 1929 Lahore session, the Indian National Congress propagated the Purna Swaraj Declaration or the Declaration of Independence of India. The Congress asked the people of India to pledge themselves for civil disobedience and to follow the instructions of the Congress issued from time to time till complete independence. Such Independence Day celebrations were organized to inflame nationalistic fuel among Indian citizens and also to force the British government to consider giving independence.
