The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has now opened a front against Bollywood actor Sonu Sood who came forward to help the migrants during the Kovid-19 lockdown. The BMC has filed a police complaint against Sood, alleging that he has 'illegally' converted his 6-story house at Shakti Sagar Building in Juhu without proper permission.Following a complaint by a social worker, BMC has complained to Juhu Police Station under the Maharashtra Region and Town Planning Act. Police are investigating the case before taking action.

At the same time, Sood has claimed that he has not done any illegal work and has taken all the necessary permissions. Now only the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) is awaiting permission.

In June 2018, Sood applied to the BMC's K-West Ward Building Proposal Department, proposing to convert their residential complex into a lodging-cum-boarding facility. The BMC in September 2018 had asked for a revised proposal, following all the criteria, returning the proposal, which has not been given till now.

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party in the state has condemned the BMC's move, alleging that it is a retaliatory action taken against actress Kangana Ranaut.

BJP spokesperson Ram Kadam has questioned that nothing was wrong when the BMC converted the same campus into the Quarantine facility last year. Now suddenly the same premises became illegal.
